Why Choose Our Program?

Pediatric cardiac pathology in the state of Mississippi is unrivaled in the United States and made unique with the challenges of a higher prevalence of obesity, health care disparities, relatively non-migrant populations and potential environmental exposures impacting the presentation of congenital and acquired pediatric cardiac problems.

This, coupled with the large referral base that UMMC enjoys being the only MD medical school for the state of Mississippi, offers a wealth of experience and opportunities to learners in our field for both clinical training and research.

Our program also offers:

  • Diverse and dedicated faculty trained at premier institutions in the country
  • Children's Heart Center support: This includes resources and staff support in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric cardiac critical care, and pediatric cardiac anesthesia.
  • Wealth of research opportunities, funding and infrastructure
  • Robust didactic curriculum
